Stocky is shutting down. Here is how to replace it without buying the wrong thing.

Shopify is retiring Stocky, with its APIs going dark at the end of August 2026. Stocky did several jobs at once — purchase orders, forecasting, stocktakes — and no single app replaces all of them. A map of the options by the job you actually used.

Stocky has been the free answer to “Shopify has no purchase orders” since Shopify acquired it in 2018 and bundled it with POS Pro. Now it is being retired, and its APIs stop at the end of August 2026. If you are reading this, you are probably staring at an app that is about to stop existing and a dozen “Stocky replacement” pages, every one of them written by an app that wants to be the answer.

This page is also written by an app vendor. The difference we can offer is bluntness: StockUnison replaces almost none of Stocky, and we will say exactly which slice it does. For the rest, here is how to shop without getting burned.

Replace the jobs, not the app

Stocky quietly did four different jobs. No current app does all four well, so the first step is deciding which ones you actually used — open Stocky and look at which screens have real data in them.

1. Purchase orders and suppliers. The core job for most Stocky users: raising POs, receiving stock against them, tracking supplier catalogues and costs. This is the job to migrate first, and the one where you must export your history before the shutdown — PO records and supplier data are yours only while the app still opens. Commonly shortlisted successors: Inventory Planner, Prediko, Fabrikatör, Genie, Horse Inventory. They differ mainly in price and in how opinionated their forecasting is; all of them handle POs.

2. Forecasting and replenishment. “How much should I reorder, and when?” The same shortlist applies — this is the axis on which they compete hardest. If you never trusted Stocky’s suggestions anyway, do not pay a premium for smarter ones now.

3. Stocktakes and adjustments. Counting what is actually on the shelf and correcting Shopify to match. Shopify’s own admin has been absorbing basic adjustment workflows; for barcode-scanner stocktakes, the PO apps above mostly include it, and POS-focused tools cover the retail case.

4. Keeping several stores’ counts in agreement. The job Stocky never did — but the migration moment is when multi-store merchants discover it was the missing one. If you run one store, this row is not for you.

The trap in “Stocky replacement” shopping

Every vendor page frames its own category as the natural successor. A forecasting app will tell you forecasting was Stocky’s soul; a sync app would love to tell you it was multi-store. The honest framing: most Stocky users need a purchase-order tool, and only that. Pick the PO tool on its own merits, then ask separately whether you have the other problems.

Two checks before you commit to any successor, learned from reading this category’s one-star reviews:

• Ask what happens to your data if you leave. You are migrating precisely because an app you depended on is disappearing. Prefer tools with a real export.
• Check the recent reviews, not the rating. Sort by newest. An app coasting on a 2022 reputation shows it there first.

The multi-store slice, honestly bounded

If part of your Stocky-era pain was juggling counts across more than one Shopify store — a B2B store beside retail, an expansion store, an outlet — that job never belonged to Stocky, and your new PO app will not do it either. It is a separate, smaller tool class: store-to-store inventory sync.
